Our Biggest Need...

In 2022, CYC began a partnership with the Merancas Foundation and College AIM (Atlanta, GA) to establish a new scholarship program, the CAPS Scholarship, that identifies highly motivated students during their junior year of high school who face certain challenges to pursuing their desire to a postsecondary education such as financial need, personal or family hardships, grades not reflective of fortitude and/or being a first-generational student.

In addition to earning a scholarship that will cover the cost of attendance at any in-state, public school, CAPS Scholars will receive comprehensive college prep programming, ongoing career coaching, and a long-term mentor.

We are currently looking for mentors to work with our inaugural cohort of CAPS Scholars. Learn more below!

List of Services

CAPS Scholarship Mentor
CAPS Mentors serve as advocates, accountability partners, and motivators for one CAPS Scholarship recipient. Mentors will assist Fellows in their college search and also help them work through their longer-term career goals.

All CYC Mentors are provided initial and ongoing training and are backed by CYC staff and community partners to support the mentor x mentee relationship.

Who: College graduate excited about working with teens. No prior mentoring experience required. Virtual mentoring available.

Level of commitment: High -
Monthly meetings from high school senior year through second year in college.
Year 1 - Required monthly meetings & workshops
Year 2 - Bi-monthly meetings
Year 3 - Semester meetings or as needed

Location: Charlotte-area and remote opportunities available

Summer Timeline:
-Onboarding & Training: 2 weeks
-Mentee Matching:June; flexible meeting times

Core Volunteer Opportunities

The CYC Volunteer Core is a team of passionate community members looking to share resources, social capital, and knowledge with our Torch Fellows (high school students). They play a critical role in our work through embodying and helping our Fellows live out our core values: Empowerment, Excellence, Growth, Openness, and Community.

College Volunteer Opportunities

Our work doesn't stop with getting Fellows into college. Our College Volunteers play a critical role within CYC's Persistence Program, through which we provide individualized college transition and persistence support to ensure our College Fellows excel in and graduate from college.

Can't fit a weekly commitment into your schedule? No worries! We've got several other ways you can plug into our work! Join our Helping Hands team to help with little but meaningful tasks to help power our daily operations or grab a spot with our E-Tutoring Team to work off site in the comfort of their own home, office or...Starbucks...tutoring Fellows in various subjects, and more!
